do two tubes at once then it make sense to have one selected reference tube
I see. Yes, the digital scope option would work. I have one, might try it out. With a 6c33, the VacuTrace has only enough power to trace ...

Did you just answer your own question? Use the B2, then. Plenty of nice, small tube amps for tweeters, if that's what you want. I could list tube and SS amps, but I hate doing that "in public", not to mention, as you just pointed out, you only need t...

No question in my mind that the tubes themselves contribute to the sound we get from tube-based systems. Funny how I go to such lengths to get "quiet" tubes and use dampers even as I realize that even the quietest tubes are doing their bit to/f...
3) There is an army of the 150V 7-pins gas tubes: 0A2, SG1P, STV150/30, StR150/30, 150C1, G150m 150C2, 150C4, CV10664, CV1832, CV2903, CV8161, HD51, M8223, QS1207, GD150/4K, QS1210, SR56. I did not try the larger octal 150V...
Didn't you first become aware of MF "problems" when you got everything else working better via the PP2000, and the MF wound up dropping back to weak sister status with respect to system-wide PP2000 benefits?
The PP2000 ...

I have no idea where this saga with REL leads me. Even though I do have substantial sonic improvement over the original REL version I still do not know if I like this tuner all together. The 50 years all tube tuner with 17 tubes is very freaky thing....
As usual, they leave out the VacuTrace, by far the best modern day tube tester.
Interesting, Jim.
I was not in the market for tube tester but I looking at your tracer I fugue out that I might sell a few my chea...

Johann, in any case I would not leave lifted. You do not want to have inside tube anything that has no referent to anything, it is like a transformer – you do not want to have in it any coils that are not connected to anything. I would say the to gro...

I have today a local audio guy stopped by in my room and listened my playback. I have almost painful reaction from this listening session and could not wait when it will be over. The playback sounded very unpleasant, I mean so unpleasant that I w...

Wonder if ordinary "di-electric grease" would work on tube pins? Anyone ever try it?It works for old car distributors and electrical service connections, which is to say, other high votage applications.Like I said in the ML2 thread a few p...
Any ideas for sources for 6AK5 and 5651A? Seems like most of the ML2 tubes are "hard to find" from local sources.
I do not know why you say it. Both 6AK5 and 5651 are very common and very inexpensive tubes. The 6...

I like to stress a point that the mammals that write thier doodles for audio publication are not juts ignorant fools but also the cheap, low class, falseificators. No wonder that the audio manufacturing companies do employ the so-called reviewers as ...
On dynamic, the 6C33C tube showed its ability to go deep in the bass on Ray Brown trio recording of Soular Energy which is excellent for a 15W SE , the 845 amp can do better, but not by much, but probably because of its 25W ou...
You are lucky to be able to bask in such luxury! It is one thing to build an amp for yourself, constantly tweaking and upgrading. Quite another to design a machine for public consumption, at which point things like r...

Yes, Chris, thanks.
I understand how it works, the same Newton Bias only on the other side of the driver’s tube. Dima have proposed something similar in past and last nigh we discussed with him what you suggested. He was planning to post his commen...

Funny, funny but those 2 47uf capacitors are the only eminent the worth to keep in this kit – they looks like very good polypropylene caps. I also a person who go uselessly go for chokes with high DCR not lover. Anyhow, I am not changing any magnetic...
After a few minutes, I checked the amps with a (Fluke 189) DMM, just for drill. Voltage was set down to 175, but current was about 450 mA. Dialing down the pots, I could not get the current below 390 mA, even t...
A 20w tripath and a 5w El84 set per channel is a sensible and cheap combination. The tripath and line level crossover section could be thrown in for free!
Actually I was wondering what the hell you were talking about what you were bitching that the ML2 socket can not handle 6N6P first. Ether you changed over 10.000 tubes in there or something else was wrong because the ML2 sockets are fine (except the ...

This week I will be trying to address why the Milq midbass is clipping. This is very interesting one. Currently the Melquiades LF channel uses an output transformer 700R to 5R or 11.83 to 1. I thought before that I have much lower ratio, like 5:1 bu...

After trying all the might be tried with 6C33C (measurement-wise) I concluded that I know that tube very well …in order do not test it. All that I do is taking a new tube, burn it until the start up current is stabilized:

Alas, no time for anything at the moment, the listening valuation must await construction of the amps (and speakers...)Also, it is a very custom application - it is designed to drive an array of ribbon tweeters. Normally these have matching transform...
I run the driver tube at 170V @20mA. I don't think you need to run this tube at high current. It is very linear with wide signal swings at this bias.
I think digital source components are the most sensitive to powerline garbage. They should all be designed to run off batteries. In terms of sensitivity I would rank components like this: 1. Digital Source 2. Solid State Preamp 3. Solid State Amp ...

Ok, I just thought of something... The 6C33Cs which make so much heat are located on the right side of each amp; the rear tube is within close proximity of the right side transformer... Is it possible that the incorrectly biased tube was heated beyon...
